CLE

As of December 31, 1998, attorneys admitted to practice in the State of New York must meet Continuing Legal Education ("CLE") requirements under a program announced and administered by the Office of Court Administration.

Attorneys admitted to the New York State Bar on or after October 1, 1997 must satisfy a "bridge-the-gap" transitional education program for newly admitted attorneys and all others must undertake a more flexible continuing legal education program.

The mutual assistance and continuing legal education division of the District Attorneys Association, the New York Prosecutors Training Institute, Inc. (NYPTI), and many district attorneys' offices throughout the state are, or are in the process of becoming, accredited providers of CLE courses to meet these requirements.

Details of the program, its requirements and administration may be found at the OCA web site: http://www.courts.state.ny.us/mcle.htm
